All my Fur Trade Era knives are hand forged of 1095 high carbon steel that I work in a coal forge. The blades have that "fire etched" pattern as a direct result of the inconsistent heat produced by the coal forge. (They are not acid etched like many of the cheaper knives available today.)
Blades are tempered to a 56 Rockwell "C" hardness which gives them an excellent edge holding ability but still allows them to be sharpened easily and quickly. Harder tempering, such as a 58-60, is available if requested.
Curly Maple is what I use as standard handle material on my "fur trade" styles. Other Handle materials such as Elk Antler, Deer Antler, Ebony, Bone, and Osage Orange are available upon request. I do try, though, to keep to what was available at the time for correct period pieces. All of my knives come with a hand made, hand stitched, leather sheath.
